Storoe and Old Settlements

When we were all tied up at Storoe on July 21st we went ashore to explore the island. This was also our first encounter with bugs, and a lot of them.

As a part of the preparation for the trip to Greenland, we got some PDF’s with topographic charts of the east coast. These charts also point out where some old settlements are located, and on Storoe there are many.

Some of these old settlements are just ruins, while at some places there are still hunting cabins used by the locals.

The ruins are hard to spot in the landscape, so this is the only one we found

A little bit further west on the island, was some hunting cabins where an old settlement lied.

After a couple hours of exploring, we headed back to the boat to move it around the island to anchor for the night. But when we got into the bay, it had a 20cm thick ice in it. Our solution for the problem was to give it some throttle and drive into the ice. This made for good anchorage for the night and we could enjoy our burger dinner in peace.
