A day in the Ice

After a night drifting outside the ice belt and by the light of a new morning. We headed back in thru ice. We had found a place on the map that looked like a nice place to anchor for the night approximately 50nm from our current position.

Getting closer to the coast revels how extreme the scenery can be here on east Greenland

The route we had planned on taking, included going inside some islands. That turned out to be too difficult. I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

It looked possible in the beginning.

But it got denser and denser

So, we sent up our drone. Undeniably the best tool to have when trying to go thru ice.

Turned out that passing thru wasn’t feasible this time around, just too much ice.

So, we turned back and started to go around on the outside of the islands. On a positive note, Catrine got some great shots from up in the mast.

When we were out of the ice packed sound and turned back south again, we ran into this enormous cluster of ice bergs. We just had to check them out.

But now we really needed to get going, if we wanted to get to our destination before dark. We headed outside the ice belt once again, and went straight to Ikasangmit, a small bay we would anchor for the night.
